  • Founding - In 2016 author and entrepreneur Fawn Weaver found out that Jack Daniel credited an African American slave as the person who taught him how to make whiskey. The slave's name was Nathanial Green, who was known around the plantation on which he worked as "Uncle Nearest". Fawn became instantly obsessed with this information and after conducting 2,500 of research, decided that it was her calling to launch a whiskey named after Nearest as a testament to his innovation and legacy. 
     
  • Growth - In 5 years, Uncle Nearest is the Best-Selling African-American Owned and Founded Spirits Brand Ever. As of March 2021, Uncle Nearest has sold over 1.5 million bottles of its whiskey and is available in more than 21,000 locations and in all 50 states.
     
  • Team - Uncle Nearest's executive team is all women, including a 5th-generation descendent of Nathaniel Green. 
     
  • Awards -  Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey has garnered more than 150 awards, including “World’s Best” by World Whiskies Awards two years in a row, “Top 5 Whiskies in the World,” by Cigar & Spirits Magazine, “Chairman’s Trophy, Platinum and Double Gold” by SIP Awards and “Best American Whiskey,” as well as “Double Gold” at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition

  • Distillery - The 270-acre Nearest Green Distillery opened in Shelbyville, Tennessee on Sept. 5, 2019 and will be reopening for tours in June of 2021.
