Dan Schweikert moved to Park City about 10 years ago for skiing & volunteering.
He grew up in rural Minnesota. Was a farm hand and 'car nut' as a teen, gaining a practical knowledge of machinery which led to studying mechanical engineering in college. This led to summer jobs at The Budd Company, a Navy lab (run by Johns Hopkins), GE, and IBM.
His first full-time job was at nuclear submarine builder Electric Boat. After a return to graduate school, he went to Bell Labs, becoming one of the pioneers in developing software to aid the design of integrated circuits. He finished his career with 14 years in Silicon Valley.
His talk will focus on stories from his early career. In particular, a training day on a submarine…complete with torpedo runs.
