Frank Furr

 

 

 

Frank, better known as Fuzzy, was an Air Force officer serving over 27 years in various operational, senior staff and leadership positions in the Air Force, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Defense Intelligence Agency, and Office of the Secretary of Defense. Upon his retirement from the USAF he accepted a position in an aerospace/defense high technology company and became Vice President, Programs, for L-3 Communication Systems West.

 

Fuzzy graduated fromNC State University, Raleigh, NC, and entered the USAF through ROTC. His operational military assignments started with flying the F-102 Delta Dart in Germany followed by a tour in Vietnam flying the OV-10 Bronco as a Forward Air Controller. Returning from Vietnam he volunteered for and was selected into the U-2 Dragon Lady program. Frank has flown over 3500 hours to include over 1300 in the U-2 and over 1200 hours of Combat Time. As a U-2 pilot, Fuzzy was Commander of U-2 Operations in Cyprus, and then Commander of the 99th Reconnaissance Squadron. His decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters (OLC), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with 1 OLC, and the Air Medal with 16 OLC. He has a MS from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, CO.

 

He is married to Lani and they have five children and six grandchildren. They love to travel, play golf, and enjoy winter sports. Frank is a Rotarian and also a certified jury official for Bobsled and Skeleton activities. He is a member of the OSHER facility at the University of Utah where he teaches Military Intelligence History. He also speaks at various functions and is a Guest Lecturer for Princess Cruises.
