Loren Yager, Ph.D.
Loren has spent the last month skiing in Park City and other locations in Utah after retiring from his federal position in December 2016.
Most recently, Loren served for 5 years as the Managing Director of the International Affairs and Trade team of the Government Accountability Office, directing a research staff of 150 in producing reports and providing testimony on subjects related to the international operations of the federal government. The team conducted oversight for the U.S. Congress over U.S. programs related to international trade and development, U.S. involvement with international organizations, counterterrorism efforts abroad, State Department presence, and numerous other subjects.
The primary congressional clients for the work included the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittees, and numerous others.
Prior to taking the position of Managing Director, he served for 10 years as the Director responsible for trade issues. Loren also led GAO’s Office of the Chief Economist in GAO after serving as an economist in that office.
More relevant to this audience, Loren graduated from the (Pardee) Rand Graduate School in 1991 with Distinction in Economics and Quantitative Methods. He had also held positions as an economist with the Aerospace Industries Association and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
